Dalaw: A Movie Review

Because I love horror and suspense movies, it's a must for me to watch "Dalaw", one of the entries for 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival.

"Dalaw" is the story of Stella (Kris Aquino), a widow of four years whose violent husband died in a car accident while they were quarreling. She is now set to marry her high school sweetheart Anton (Diether Ocampo) with whom she has recently reconnected. From then however, Stella's life becomes a living hell when a mud-coated ghost haunts her dreams. After their wedding, the torment escalates as actual deaths began to occur among the people around her. Stella, with the help of a spooky neighbor with a "third eye" Aling Olga (Ms. Gina Pareno), needs to discover how to stop the malevolent terror from destroying her life.

My Likes: The movie is a combination of horror with a comic relief. I love the scenes when the suspense build up like when Stella is on the restroom and mud scattered the entire room. Another scene which made me frightened the unexpected appearance of Gina Pareño because she looks like Mrs. Ganush in "Drag Me To Hell". I also like the character of Gina Pareño wherein it was written and executed in a comic horror style. The classic movie lines made me laugh and forget that I'm watching a horror movie. Lastly, I also love the kissing scenes between Kris and Diet... naka-apat din si Kris na kiss sa lips from Diet ha... Hahaha!!!

My Dislikes: The start of the movie was a bit vague because Stella was being haunted by a mud ghost in her dreams, good thing the twist was revealed in the later part of the story. The movie was also shot using poor light. It seemed like most of the movie happened during the twilight to evening hours, which made a lot of scenes very hard to see.

Over-all Impression: I can say that this movie did not make a great impact unlike "Feng Shui" and "Sukob". If there is a rating and the highest is 5 stars... I would give it 3 1/2 stars.

I hope that the next horror movie of Kris Aquino would level to what "Feng Shui" and "Sukob" has achieved. Still, I can consider her as the "Queen of Philippine Horror Movies"... =)

Attack Of the Gleeks!!!

One of the shows that makes me glued in front of our television is the U.S. hit T.V. Series Glee. When I first heard of the title, I became curious because it's one of my interest which is singing. After watching one episode, I can't help it but to wait from one episode to another.

This is the story of students of McKinley High who has one thing in common... SINGING!!! The show showcases musical productions and collaborations. I love their cover songs, renditions and group performances. At first, the performances are being led by Finn (Corey Monteith) and Rachel (Lea Michele) but eventually the other cast members were given their own piece to perform.

Here are the noted performances of the group:

When Season 2 was aired already, latest addition appeared to the cast, Chord Overstreet who plays Sam Evans and Philippine's pride Charice Pempengco playing the role of Sunshine Corazon. The scene of Sunshine and Rachel on their cover "Telephone" created a thread in different blogs and social networking sites, the scene also had parodies. Here are their first performances:

Of course, New Directions has competitors and that is the Warblers with their lead vocals Darren Criss who's role is Blaine, somewhat close to Kurt when he transferred schools. His first performance on Glee was Teenage Dream.

Glee also guested celebrities like Britney Spears in episode 2 and Gwyneth Palthrow in episode 7. Spears just had a cameo role when Santana and Brittany are performing "Me Against The Music". Palthrow was a substitute teacher who supervised the team when Will was not around.

I really love their group performance for "The Time Of My Life" which was shown in the Sectionals battle for glee club.

With Glee, I'm sure there's a lot more to come... more songs and great performances!!! =)

My Collection

If there is one thing I love most collecting, that would be Sylvester The Cat. I don't know what is with this character that amuses me. When I just drop by a store where there is a Sylvester the Cat collectible, even if that is not part of my budget I don't hesitate to buy it. Some were given by friends.

I really love this cat!!! =)
